The aim of the Working Group is, over a period of years, to develop a user-friendly comprehensive chemical speciation model of seawater and related natural waters, and the pH buffers used to define the marine pH scale. Full details of our activities, and the membership of the Working Group (including our associate members), can be found on the WG 145 website.
Our project involves the following elements:
How far have we got? The demonstration programs on this site are still "work in progress". Eventually, the speciation models will be available as both online tools, and free-standing programs and routines. The underlying code is Fortran, but wrappers will be created for Python, Matlab and Excel. The model will include a full treatment of uncertainties. If you want to learn more, please contact either Simon Clegg or David Turner.
Our work is supported by grants from the Natural Environment Research Council in the UK, and the National Science Foundation in the USA.
